We currently use three Nestera chicken coops. They have an automatic door that is set to open and close at a certain time every day (usually sunset and sunrise). They have access to a run that is approximately 100 feet x 75 feet all day long and they are allowed to free range outside of the run nearly every day for anywhere from 1 to 8 hours. We have a livestock guardian dog in training and a husky that would eat them if given the chance, so we like to let everyone out in the afternoon, while those specific dogs are separated. They do have a couple faithful guardian dogs that otherwise watch over them while they wander around eating bugs and plants. Check out our YouTube channel to catch glimpses of our set up!
We feed our chickens Kalmbach feeds. Chickhouse Reserve for our brand new chicks and Henhouse Reserve for our chickens 16-20 weeks of age and older.
We also add a blend of herbs and spices to boost their immune system and digestion, prevent parasites, and improve overall egg quality.
We hope you decide to enjoy the natural goodness of farm fresh eggs. With their protective blooms intact, these unwashed eggs preserve their freshness and natural protective coating, sealing in flavor and sealing out bacteria. Gently washing in warm water, just before use, ensures a farm-to-table experience and keeps the eggs at their freshest. Enjoy the wholesome taste and nutritional benefits of eggs as intended!
Common Questions
Q: What's the difference between brown and white and other colors of eggs?
A: The color of the eggshell is determined by the breed of the hen (genetic) and doesn't affect nutritional value or taste.
Q: How should farm fresh eggs be stored?
A: Refrigerate your farm fresh eggs to maintain their freshness for longer and reduce the risk of bacterial growth. Storing at a consistent temperature helps prolong their shelf life. Once they've been refrigerated, they should be kept refrigerated.
Q: How do I know if a farm fresh egg is still good to eat?
A: When in doubt, throw it out! There are a few wives' tales others swear by, so you can look into those. Personally, we like to crack our eggs into a separate bowl in the off chance one happened to go bad for whatever reason.
